Thanks to the BBL media team for these reports.
Dateline - Sunday 10th April 2005
TCS Chester Jets have won the BBL Championship for the first time in their history in the single league format. The Jets secured the title on the final day of the season thanks to a convincing 97-74 win over the London Towers in front of a jam packed Northgate Arena. Jets posted 3rd quarter runs of 14-4 and 9-2 to make the game safe at 74-52 and inflict Towers first defeat in 13 outings.
On Friday, in front of over 4500 fans, the Jets put themselves in the box seat with a 96-94 win over closest rivals the Springfield Honda Newcastle Eagles, a 20-2 burst in the third quarter giving the Jets the padding to withstand a late Eagles rally. Jets face the Milton Keynes Lions next Sunday in the play off quarter final.
The Eagles ensured the Jets needed the victory over the Towers after comfortably despatching the Westfield Sharks Sheffield 95-62. A 13-2 start to the game gave the Eagles the control and their lead was in tact throughout the remainder of the encounter. Eagles will face the Thames Valley Tigers on Friday, the winner securing a place at the Basketball Finals Weekend.
It completed a mixed week for the Sharks who defeated the Scottish Phoenix Honda Record Rocks 95-92 on Thursday to secure a 4th placed finish and a play off quarter final against the Brighton Bears. The Rocks enjoyed their final home game of the season, recording a 116-90 victory over the Milton Keynes Lions to secure 6th spot and a game on the road against the London Towers in the play offs.
Earlier in the week the Towers recorded two victories over the Brighton Bears to secure their third placed finish. They followed up a 89-57 victory at home with a 95-79 win on the South coast on Saturday.
The Lions secured their play off berth on Friday evening with a 78-62 success over the Leicester Riders. A 10-2 finish to the encounter finally seeing off the challenge of a resilent Riders outfit. Just 24 hours later the Riders finished their season with a 87-82 overtime victory over the Kularoos Plymouth Raiders, their sixth home win in seven attempts. The Raiders endured a disappointing final weekend of action, after leading for much of the game they slipped to a 80-75 reverse at the hands of the Thames Valley Tigers on Sunday. It was the Tigers 3rd victory this week, on Saturday they recorded a 117-100 success over the Birmingham Bullets and a 75-66 scoreline over the Brighton Bears on Tuesday.
In the weekend's final game the Brighton Bears broke a 4 game losing streak with a 93-78 result over the Birmingham Bullets.

The Scottish Rocks secured a 6th place finish and a play off quarter final against the London Towers with a 116-90 success over the Milton Keynes Lions. Rocks Donald Cole poured in an impressive 44 points as his side flew out of the blocks to lead 40-24 at the end of the first quarter. A 12-0 run leading up to the half time interval helped the Rocks extend the lead to 63-40 and despite the Lions clawing the lead back in the third they could not get close enough to cause a threat.
